PM Kisan Yojana: Can both father and son receive ₹2,000 each under the PM Kisan Yojana? Know the rules..

Newspoint

PM Kisan Yojana: The Government of India runs the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana for farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually. This amount is transferred directly to their bank accounts in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. Two installments have already been released so far this calendar year, and farmers are now awaiting the third installment.

Many farmers wonder whether a father and son from the same family, both engaged in farming, can each receive the ₹2,000 installment separately. Can both the father and son avail the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana in their respective names? Let us find out.

Will both the farmer father and son receive ₹2,000 each?

If the father and son fall under the same farming family according to the scheme's rules, they will not receive separate PM Kisan installments. The scheme treats the family as a single unit.

For instance, if land records place the father, mother, and minor children in the same farming family, that family will receive a total of ₹6,000 annually upon eligibility. This amount is credited to the account in three installments of ₹2,000 each. However, the rule differs for an adult son.

If the father and son live in the same household or share the same ration card, only one member—the father—will receive the benefit.

What is the rule regarding an adult son?

It is important to understand a key distinction here. The definition of a 'family' under the PM Kisan scheme includes minor children; therefore, the situation for an adult son may differ. If the son meets the eligibility criteria as a separate farming family and possesses valid land records in his name, his eligibility can be determined independently.

The mere fact that the son engages in farming does not, in itself, constitute grounds for receiving a separate PM Kisan benefit. Land ownership and other scheme regulations are also taken into account. If the son possesses his own ration card and has cultivable land recorded in his name in the revenue records (*Khatauni*), then—in addition to the father—the son can also avail the benefits of the PM Kisan Yojana.
