Railways: Sale of platform tickets suspended at 5 Mumbai stations ahead of Diwali and Chhath..
Crowd Control for Chhath Puja Special Trains: In anticipation of the heavy passenger rush during Diwali and Chhath Puja, Central Railway has implemented strict measures at major railway stations in Mumbai. As part of these measures, the sale of platform tickets will be completely suspended from November 5 to November 15, 2026, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Thane, and Kalyan stations.
Indian Railways has initiated these stringent steps to prevent unnecessary crowding at stations and ensure passenger safety during the festive season. Central Railway has taken this significant decision specifically to manage the massive influx of people at busy stations in and around Mumbai. According to an official notification, platform tickets will not be issued at these five high-traffic stations in Mumbai between November 5 and November 15, 2026. During this period, only passengers holding valid train tickets will be permitted to enter the station premises and platforms.
Platform ticket sales will be suspended at the following 5 stations:
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar Station, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane Station, and Kalyan Station.
Exemptions for certain passengers and their companions:
While security protocols are being strictly enforced, the Railways has clarified that exemptions will be granted to individuals assisting passengers in specific circumstances:
Companions arriving to drop off or receive senior citizens; individuals assisting passengers who are ill; those helping passengers traveling with young children; and companions accompanying female passengers are exempted from this restriction.
Reason for the restriction:
Following Diwali and Chhath Puja, there is typically a massive surge in passenger numbers on trains heading toward North India, Bihar, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. This measure has been taken to ensure that only passengers who are traveling are present on the platform, thereby preventing any stampede or inconvenience caused by unnecessary crowding. The railway administration has urged passengers to arrive at the station at the scheduled time and to follow the rules, in order to avoid any inconvenience.
