Addressing the issue publicly, the actor acknowledged his mistake and expressed regret.

What Happened During Ranbir Kapoor’s Dussehra Speech?

The incident took place on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at a Dussehra celebration organised by the Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad at Central Park in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The event followed the theme ‘Ram Er Ayodhya – Ram Ki Ayodhya’.

Kapoor attended the celebration alongside producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and actor Ravie Dubey.

While speaking about the significance of Dussehra, he said, “Dussehra hame ek bahut khubsurat baat yaad dilati hai, ki burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun naa ho, aakhir mein ant sacchai aur achchai ki ki hogi.”

The statement was intended to highlight the triumph of truth and goodness over evil. However, Kapoor used the word “ant”, meaning “end”, instead of “jeet”, meaning “victory”. This unintentionally changed the meaning of his message, suggesting that truth and goodness would meet their end rather than emerge victorious.

Clips of the speech quickly spread across social media, prompting sarcastic comments and discussions about the mistake. The incident also attracted attention because Kapoor is preparing to portray Lord Ram in the upcoming Ramayana film.

Ranbir Kapoor Issues a Public Apology in Chennai

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Kapoor addressed the controversy during the grand musical event and full-album launch of Ramayana in Chennai.

The actor apologised to the audience and explained that he had misspoken during the previous day’s Dussehra celebration.

He clarified that his intended message was: “Burai chahe kitni bhi taqatwar kyun na ho, aakhir mei jeet achai aur sachai ki hoti hai.”

The statement conveyed the message he had originally intended: no matter how powerful evil may be, truth and goodness ultimately prevail.

Kapoor also responded to the situation with a touch of humour by recalling a line from his 2011 film Rockstar, whose music was composed by AR Rahman. Quoting “Jo bhi main kehna chahun, barbaad kare alfaaz mere”, he acknowledged how his words had failed to express his intended meaning.

His response combined an apology with a lighthearted reference to his own film, as he addressed the misunderstanding directly.
