Two years after her last television outing with Barsatein: Mausam Pyaar Ka, Shreya Dave is back on the small screen after exploring vertical dramas and Gujarati cinema . Currently seen in Seher Hone Ko Hai as Zeenat, the stepsister of Parth Samthaan ’s character, the actress is excited about the unexpected turns her character will bring to the story.

Shreya says, “What makes Zeenat particularly exciting for me as an actor is that she is going to bring some very unexpected turns to the story. Her journey is going to be quite a roller-coaster ride, allowing me to portray different shades and a wide range of emotions. For me, that is what makes this role so special. Zeenat is taking me into a completely different space as an actor, allowing me to explore emotions I haven’t portrayed before. It’s new, challenging and incredibly exciting, and I’m having a great time discovering the character. I wouldn’t want to put her in a box by labelling her positive or negative. So, I would say, don’t judge Zeenat too quickly!”

The actress, who has been part of Gujarati films such as Karma Wallet, Mastini Pathshala and EkDe Ek, believes Zeenat has pushed her into unfamiliar territory. She says, “Among all the characters I’ve played so far, Zeenat stands out because she is taking me into unexplored territory as an actor. I’m doing things with this character that I have never done before. For the first time, I’m portraying a Muslim character, and that comes with the responsibility of getting the Urdu accent , pronunciation, vocabulary, mannerisms and overall body language right.”

She adds, “It’s definitely challenging, especially because I want the Urdu to sound authentic and not like I’m simply putting on an accent. I’m putting in a lot of effort into understanding the language and its nuances, and I know I’ll have to keep working on it throughout the journey. But that’s exactly what excites me as an actor. I love that this character is pushing me out of my comfort zone.”

Speaking about the show’s concept, Shreya appreciates its sensitive treatment of social issues. She says, “I really appreciate the fact that the show touches upon several issues prevalent in our society that need to be questioned. What makes it beautiful is the sensitivity with which it approaches these subjects. It doesn’t just raise an issue for the sake of it; there is a larger thought behind the situations and the characters. Zeenat’s entry itself is connected to one such issue. I found the track particularly interesting because it presents a situation that we don’t often see explored on television. At its core, it raises an important question about a woman’s right to make decisions about her own life, regardless of what her family or society expects of her.”
