Sumeet Sachdev: Hopping from one friend's house to another is what makes Ganpati so special
Actor Sumeet Sachdev , known for playing Gautam Gomzy Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, says Ganesh Chaturthi has a special charm, particularly in Mumbai. The actor has reprised his role in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 and says the festival brings the same sense of warmth and togetherness on and off screen.
For Sumeet, visiting friends’ homes for darshan is one of the highlights of the festival. “Every home has a different kind of Bappa, different decoration and different energy, but the same devotion, warmth and love. You get to meet friends, share modaks, sing aarti together and just feel that sense of belonging,” he says.
“In a busy city like Mumbai, this is the time when everyone opens their doors and hearts. You don’t just go for darshan, you go to reconnect, to laugh and to create memories. That whole hopping from one friend’s house to another is what makes Ganpati so special here,” he adds.
The actor has also experienced the festival while shooting festive tracks and says the atmosphere on set often feels like an actual celebration. “Shooting a Ganesh Chaturthi track is always so special and exciting. On set, we recreate the same festive energy — Bappa’s idol, decorations, dhol and everyone dressed in festive colours. It actually feels like a real celebration,” he says.
He adds, “While shooting, we do aarti together, share modaks, and the whole atmosphere becomes so positive and joyful. Even though we are working, that devotion and togetherness makes you forget the long hours. It never feels like just a track, it feels real.”
For Sumeet, the festival ultimately represents togetherness. “Ganesh Chaturthi is special because it brings everyone together like no other festival. There is devotion, joy, music and colour all around. Bappa brings positivity, hope and new beginnings, and in those ten days, the city slows down to celebrate love, faith and togetherness in its purest form,” he says.
