Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia turns dosa chef at Bengaluru's Rameshwaram Cafe; video goes viral

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia dropped into Bengaluru’s popular Rameshwaram Cafe and ended up doing something most customers wouldn’t expect. He stepped behind the counter, picked up a ladle and tried his hand at making dosas alongside the kitchen staff.

Videos of the impromptu visit, shared by Scindia himself, have now gone viral.

Dressed in a white kurta, Scindia can be seen chatting with the chefs before taking over the hot griddle. He pours the dosa batter, spreads it across the pan and waits for it to cook before plating it with chutneys.

He then hands the dosa across the counter to a customer, while photographers capture the whole moment.

But dosa wasn't the only thing he tried.


In another video, Scindia takes on the familiar South Indian filter coffee routine, pouring the coffee back and forth between vessels to create that frothy finish. A staff member can be heard guiding him in Hindi before he gets the technique right.

‘How are you? Very good job you all are doing’Scindia also spent time chatting with the cafe staff during his visit.

“How are you? How do you do? Very good job you all are doing,” he told them.

Sharing the experience later, the minister said he “couldn’t resist dropping into Rameshwaram Cafe” and taking a look inside the kitchen.

His dosa-making attempt also came with an admission that the job isn't quite as simple as it looks.

“Tried my hand at tossing dosas under the watchful eye of the brilliant chefs here. Safe to say, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye!” he wrote.

And if you're heading to Bengaluru, Scindia had a recommendation too. He called the cafe “an absolute must” and, after trying the coffee, captioned another clip: “My filter coffee fix, done just right!”

Internet reactedWhile plenty of people enjoyed seeing the minister swap his usual setting for a busy cafe kitchen, the comments weren't all praise.

One user joked that the secret behind the cafe's dosa wasn't necessarily the batter or recipe, writing, “Magic isnt in ingredients of dose..its in ghee.”

Others were far less impressed by the cafe itself.

One Bengaluru resident dismissed the hype, calling it “just another restaurant around the corner, overhyped, overpriced.”

So while Scindia's dosa-and-coffee videos have given the cafe another viral moment, the comments show that Bengaluru's opinion on the popular eatery is far from unanimous.
