Urinary tract infections (UTIs), commonly known as urine infections, are among the most common bacterial infections. Although both men and women can develop UTIs, women are more prone to them because of the structure of the female urinary system. A UTI can affect different parts of the urinary tract, including the urethra and bladder.

Why are women more prone to urine infections?

One of the main reasons women are more susceptible to UTIs is the shorter length of the female urethra. Since the urethra is shorter, bacteria have a shorter distance to travel before reaching the bladder. The urethral opening is also located closer to the anus, making it easier for bacteria from the bowel to enter the urinary tract.
