Visakhapatnam Enters Global Cruise Map: First International Departure Announced
For decades, India’s international cruise journeys have largely started from the west coast, especially cities like Mumbai. That pattern is finally changing. Visakhapatnam is now set to emerge as a new international cruise departure hub, marking a major milestone for India’s eastern coastline.
Starting July 15, the city will host its first international cruise service, opening up a completely new route for Indian travellers. The cruise, operated by Cordelia Cruises, will offer a 14-day journey covering multiple destinations across Southeast Asia.
The itinerary itself signals the scale of this shift. Passengers will begin their journey from Visakhapatnam, stop at Chennai for a short stay, and then sail to international destinations like Phuket, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
This is not just about adding a new travel option. It represents a structural change in how cruise tourism is developing in India.
Until now, international cruise departures have been concentrated in western ports. For travellers in eastern and southern India, this often meant additional travel just to board a cruise. With Visakhapatnam entering the picture, that barrier reduces significantly.
