Ambati Rayudu: A Cricket Journey from Promise to IPL Stardom

New Delhi, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Ambati Rayudu has established himself as one of the finest middle-order batsmen in Indian cricket. Despite limited opportunities on the international stage, he has consistently showcased his talent whenever called upon. His true potential shone brightly in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he ranks among the most successful batsmen in the league's history.Born on September 23, 1985, in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Rayudu developed a passion for cricket at a young age. His technical skills and ability to play long innings made him a candidate for India's next big batting star. He is known for his comfort against both spin and pace bowlers, adapting well to various pitch conditions. Rayudu first gained national attention in 2022 when he scored a remarkable 177 runs against England while representing the Indian U-19 team. He played a key role in leading India to the semifinals of the 2004 U-19 World Cup.Making his first-class debut for Hyderabad in 2002, Rayudu quickly emerged as a strong contender for a spot on the national team due to his consistent performances. However, a decision in 2007 to join the Indian Cricket League (ICL), which was not recognized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), jeopardized his early career. After apologizing to the BCCI in 2009, Rayudu's career regained momentum when he was picked by the Mumbai Indians. Four years after his IPL debut, Rayudu played his first One Day International (ODI) for India on July 24, 2013, against Zimbabwe.He made his T20 debut on September 7, 2014, also against England. Rayudu's last ODI was on March 8, 2019, against Australia, and his final T20 match took place on June 22, 2016, against Zimbabwe. He was notably left out of the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup, a decision that left him publicly disappointed. This disappointment contributed to his retirement from international cricket later that year. Throughout his international career, Rayudu played 55 ODIs, scoring 1,694 runs with three centuries and ten half-centuries across 50 innings.In T20s, he managed 42 runs in five innings. Rayudu's IPL career has been nothing short of remarkable. He played for two of the league's most successful teams, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, winning titles with both. From 2009 to 2017, he was part of the Mumbai Indians, contributing to their three championship victories in 2013, 2015, and 2017. He joined the Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and played until 2023, winning three more titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023.He proudly holds the distinction of being the only player to win six IPL titles. In total, Rayudu has scored 4,348 runs in 204 IPL matches, with one century and 22 half-centuries across 187 innings. After retiring from the IPL, Rayudu shifted his focus to commentary and currently serves as the Director of Cricket Operations for the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
