The Ashes began with a bang on Friday as Ben Stokes and the England fast bowlers tore into Australia in Perth. Stokes produced a magnificent five-fer, in an ideal response to Mitchell Starc's 7-58, to reduce the hosts to 123-9. The tourists had earlier surrendered for 172 but following a a 19-wicket opening day, England had a strong opportunity to go 1-0 up in the series.

However, despite England taking a lead of 40 runs into their second innings, another collapse meant Australia were set 205 to claim the first blow - and they held nothing back in the final innings. Travis Head's incredible century saw the Aussies chase their target down in no time at all, and the contest was all over within just two days.
