BCCI Confirms Mohammed Shami & Prasidh Krishna's Absence From IPL 2024 Due To Surgeries
Indian fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna have been officially ruled out of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as confirmed by the BCCI medical team in a statement. The duo underwent surgeries for their injuries earlier in the year, making them unavailable for the T20 tournament scheduled to commence on March 22.
The BCCI said, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, absent from the national team since the World Cup, had surgery for a right heel injury on February 26. Unfortunately, Shami's absence will be a significant setback for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024, where Shubman Gill will captain the team. "He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024."
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals' key player Prasidh Krishna had surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon on February 23. Unfortunately, he will be sidelined for the upcoming edition of the tournament for the former champions.
According to the board, "He (Prasidh) is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024."
The BCCI has confirmed that Rishabh Pant is fit to resume wicket keeping duties in IPL 2024. This marks his highly anticipated return to competitive cricket since the life-threatening accident he encountered in December 2022.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has indicated that Mohammed Shami is likely to make a comeback during a home Test series against Bangladesh in September. Unfortunately, Shami will miss India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the West Indies and the USA, scheduled to begin on June 1.
