BCCI Issues Firm Statement as Virat Kohli Withdraws from Initial England Tests
The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) made an announcement on Monday revealing that Virat Kohli , the star batter, has chosen to withdraw from the initial two Test matches against England , citing 'personal reasons.'
In an official statement, the BCCI conveyed that Kohli had engaged in discussions with captain Rohit Sharma and the team management concerning his absence, and they extended their full support to the cricketer.
" Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming Test series against England, citing personal reasons," stated the BCCI in their official release.
The statement went on to explain Kohli's perspective, saying, "Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention."
Kohli had previously missed the first T20I match against Afghanistan for 'personal reasons,' and he was also absent from an intra-squad match in South Africa as he had to fly to London.
The BCCI's statement also urged the media to avoid 'speculating on the nature of his personal reasons' and assured that Kohli's replacement would be disclosed in the coming days.
"The BCCI respects his decision, and the Board and team management have extended their support to the star batter, expressing confidence in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series."
