Contrary to recent reports suggesting her retirement, Indian boxing legend MC Mary Kom has come forward to clarify that she has not officially announced her departure from the sport. In a statement addressed to the media, she emphasized, "Dear Friends from media, I haven't announced retirement yet, and I have been misquoted. I will personally come in front of the media whenever I want to announce it."Dismissing the retirement speculations, Mary Kom referred to a recent event in Dibrugarh on January 24, 2024, where she shared, "I still have the hunger for achieving more in sports, but the age limit in Olympics doesn't allow me to participate, although I can continue with my sport. I am still focusing on my fitness, and whenever I decide to retire, I will inform everyone."Earlier reports had hinted at Mary Kom's retirement, citing the International Boxing Association's (IBA) regulations, which impose an age limit of 40 for boxers participating at the highest level.Acknowledging her persistent desire to compete, the 41-year-old Mary expressed frustration with the imposed age restriction, stating, "I still have the hunger, but unfortunately, because of the age limit, it's over. I cannot compete in any competition. I want to play more, but I am being compelled to quit due to the age limit. I have to retire. I have achieved everything in my life."
