Former England cricket team spinner Monty Panesar suggests that England cricketers should employ a strategy of sledging Virat Kohli and attempting to 'mentally pinch' him in the upcoming Test series in India, set to commence on January 25.
The five-match Test series is anticipated to heavily rely on Kohli's performance, and Panesar believes that playing with Kohli's ego through strategic verbal tactics could prove effective. Panesar advocates for reminding Kohli about India being perceived as 'chokers' in international competitions and capitalizing on England's successes in limited-overs World Cups, particularly noting Ben Stokes' achievements.
"Play with his ego and get psychologically stuck into him. They should also say things to him like, you guys are chokers when it comes to the final. They should sledge him on those lines because Stokes has won the ODI and T20 WC, and Kohli has not, and that is going to mentally pinch him," Panesar told India.com.
When questioned about the bowler most likely to dismiss Kohli in the series, Panesar singles out veteran fast bowler James Anderson, attributing his selection to Anderson's proficiency in generating reverse-swing.
"I think it will be James Anderson, and I think it will be the reverse-swing that would get Kohli," he added.
