The Maha Urja $25K ITF women’s tennis championships at the Nagpur District Hard Court Tennis Association (NDHTA) courts at Ram Nagar witnessed an impressive display of talent from Indian players. Out of the 12 Indian qualifiers in contention, five successfully secured spots in the main draw, marking a promising start to the tournament.
With a combination of wild card entries, qualifiers, and ranked players, a total of 13 Indian players have earned positions in the women's singles main draw of 32, set to commence from Tuesday. Additionally, in the women's doubles main draw of 16, 15 Indian players will be in action, reflecting a strong presence in both categories.
Haryana’s 18-year-old rising star, Anjali Rathi, made a significant debut in the WTA rankings after a remarkable victory over Japan’s third seed Michika Ozeki in the final qualifying round. Rathi impressed by defeating Michika Ozeki in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Her straight-sets win not only secured her entry into the main draw but also propelled her into the WTA ranking points system.
