Mamata Banerjee Announces Cricket Stadium To Be Named After Richa Ghosh
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that a new cricket stadium will be named after Women’s World Cup winner Richa Ghosh. Speaking from North Bengal on Monday, the Chief Minister confirmed that 27 acres of land have been allocated in Chadmuni for the project.
Banerjee said the stadium would bear Richa Ghosh’s name so that “her contribution remains in people’s hearts for generations.”
In a heartfelt gesture, Banerjee also draped her own scarf around the shoulders of Richa’s mother, acknowledging the immense role her parents have played in shaping the young cricketer’s career. “Richa has made Bengal proud, and behind her success stand her parents,” the Chief Minister remarked during the event.
Richa Ghosh’s achievements have brought immense pride not only to her family but to Bengal and India as a whole. In the recently concluded Women’s World Cup, she hit the highest number of sixes — a total of 12 — playing a pivotal role in India’s success with her rapid scoring in both the semi-final and final matches.
Banerjee said the stadium would bear Richa Ghosh’s name so that “her contribution remains in people’s hearts for generations.”
Honouring a Rising Star of Indian Women’s Cricket
On Saturday, Richa Ghosh was honoured by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and the state government at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attended the ceremony, where she personally handed Richa a gold-plated bat and ball as a token of appreciation.In a heartfelt gesture, Banerjee also draped her own scarf around the shoulders of Richa’s mother, acknowledging the immense role her parents have played in shaping the young cricketer’s career. “Richa has made Bengal proud, and behind her success stand her parents,” the Chief Minister remarked during the event.

Before attending the Eden Gardens event, Richa and her parents were honoured at Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters.
