Tashkent 2027 Unveils Medal Program and Qualification Rules for World Para Athletics Championship

Tashkent, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The World Para Athletics has officially announced the medal program and qualification rules for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championship, scheduled to take place in Tashkent from June 19 to June 27, 2027. This significant event will be hosted at the Uzbekistan Olympic City Sport Stadium. The Tashkent 2027 event will feature all competitions from the New Delhi 2025 World Championship, along with 16 additional medal events.This expansion brings the total number of medal events to 202, including 111 for men, 90 for women, and one mixed event. This marks the highest number of events in any World Championship since London 2017. Notably, all 164 medal events from the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games will also be included. In a press release issued on Tuesday, World Para Athletics detailed that five new medal events have been added specifically for Tashkent 2027. Additionally, 11 medal events have been separated from the existing New Delhi 2025 program.The championship is expected to attract over 1,300 athletes from more than 100 countries, making it the largest para sports event leading up to the LA28 Paralympics. It will also be the biggest sporting event ever held in Uzbekistan. New events introduced for the championship include: - Men's 100 meters T61 - Men's 200 meters T47 - Men's Discus Throw F53 - Women's 100 meters T61 - Women's 800 meters T20 Several events have been separated for clearer competition categories, ensuring a more inclusive environment.For example, the men's 100 meters T63 event will now have distinct categories for T42 and T63 athletes. Similar adjustments have been made across other disciplines, including long jump and shot put. This comprehensive program aims to enhance the competitive landscape for athletes with disabilities, providing them with more opportunities to showcase their talents on an international stage.
