Tripura Allocates 30 Acres for State-of-the-Art Cricket Academy in Sekerkot

Sekerkot, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Sunday that the state government is focusing on developing cricket infrastructure across the region. A significant step in this direction is the allocation of 30 acres of land in Sekerkot for a state-of-the-art cricket academy. Speaking at the annual awards ceremony organized by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) at Rabindra Bhavan, Saha noted the increasing popularity of cricket alongside other sports in recent years.He emphasized that players from other northeastern states will also have the opportunity to train at this new academy. In addition to the academy, Saha mentioned that the long-awaited construction of an international cricket stadium is nearing completion. This facility will soon host national and international competitions. Having previously served as the president of TCA, Saha expressed pride in the achievements of Tripura's cricketers on the national stage, thanks to the collaborative efforts of TCA and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).He assured continued legal and administrative support from the government to foster cricket development in the state. The proposed academy in Sekerkot is expected to become a vital training center not only for Tripura but for the entire northeastern region. Steps are being taken to expedite the completion of the international cricket stadium, with hopes of hosting major matches soon. Saha also highlighted ongoing efforts to promote cricket at the grassroots level, particularly in rural areas, by developing better practice grounds in locations like Kailashahar, Belonia, and Jirania.He congratulated Mani Shankar Murasingh, the first cricketer from Tripura to play 100 Ranji Trophy matches, for setting a remarkable precedent. Saha acknowledged the consistent performance of cricketer Shridam Pal and praised the contributions of guest players Hanuma Vihari and Vijay Shankar. The Chief Minister remarked on cricket's unique ability to unite people beyond religious, caste, and linguistic differences. During the event, he honored Abhijit Sarkar, a first-class cricketer from Tripura, for his notable achievement in the Duleep Trophy 2026-27.
