Roman Reigns shares his experience with co-star Andrew Koji, discussing how he felt about being in WWE
As Roman Reigns is busy filming for the upcoming Street Fighter movie, the star has opened up about his working experience with Andrew Koji. Akuma (Reigns) and Ryu (Koji) share the screen in one of the movie’s biggest action sequences. During the filming of the action sequences, the ‘Tribal Chief’ felt like he was in WWE while sharing the screen with the legendary martial artist.
Speaking to HeyUGuys in a recent interview, Reigns discussed the challenges of filming fight sequences with Koji and how their preparation helped establish the timing and rhythm required for their scenes. “It was awesome. That was kind of a part of the difficulty because we trained so much with John Valera’s team, and I was training a lot with Andrew’s stunt double. I was starting to really get his chemistry and his timing and his rhythm, because Andrew’s shooting the whole time. So, as I’m training and trying to get in, he’s already been doing all the work."
He further praised Koji for his physical commitment to the action sequences, describing him as a tough performer who continued working despite facing adversity. “By the time we got together, I had to adjust a little bit, and it felt like being in wrestling. It felt like being in the WWE. He’s a tough guy. He actually had to deal with some adversity, and he just trucked right through it. But yeah, he’d get in there and make some contact; he’d lay it in there, which is good because that’s what I’m used to anyways. It brings that authentic feeling to the movie,” Reigns added.
While filming the action sequences for the project, Reigns could relate to his WWE experience , as it has prepared him for physically demanding performances; working on a movie set has presented a different approach to action sequences.
In another recent interview, Reigns discussed how stunt doubles helped him avoid repeatedly falling during the film's action scenes, something he regularly experiences while performing in WWE.
‘Street Fighter’ hits theaters on October 16. The film will also feature Cody Rhodes as Guile and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, along with others from Hollywood and the wrestling world.
