Ad-Free Experience Now Essential for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos on Amazon Prime
Users now need to upgrade to a higher-tier subscription, which includes an ad-free experience, to regain access to these advanced audiovisual technologies.
This adjustment follows Amazon 's recent introduction of ads in its standard plan, which commenced on January 29, 2024. Subscribers in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada are now required to pay an additional $2.99 to enjoy an ad-free viewing experience. Notably, this supplementary fee also grants users access to Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos features.
Initial observations by 4KFilme revealed that Amazon Prime content on televisions from leading brands such as LG, Sony , and Samsung was limited to HDR10 and Dolby Digital 5.1, omitting Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support.
The Verge has corroborated these findings, citing a statement from Amazon spokesperson Katie Barker . According to Barker, "Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos capabilities are only available on the ad-free option, for relevant titles."
As of now, it remains uncertain whether these changes will extend to Amazon Prime users in India. Currently, Indian subscribers can opt for an all-inclusive Amazon Prime membership priced at Rs 1,499 annually, or choose monthly plans at Rs 299 or three-month plans at Rs 599.
