Aggregators to pay 1% of commission for gig workers' welfare in Karnataka
Ecommerce operators will pay a fee of 1% of their commission, with a cap across businesses, to fund gig workers’ welfare in line with the Karnataka Platform-based Gig Workers (Social Security & Welfare) Act, 2025.
The fund will be managed by a 16-member Gig Workers Welfare Board that the government has set up with the labour minister as its chairman.
The government has capped the fee at 50 paise, 75 paise, and Re 1, depending on the business models of the platform, to cushion the impact on small players.
