The behemoths of social media, YouTube and Facebook , continue to maintain their dominance. YouTube emerges as the undisputed leader, with a staggering 83% of respondents affirming their usage. Meanwhile, Facebook claims its sizable share, with 68% of users in the survey.

However, the standout revelation is the meteoric rise of TikTok. Positioned as the fastest-growing social platform, TikTok has captivated over a third of American adults, marking a substantial surge since the previous survey in 2021.

Delving into age demographics, the survey unveils intriguing patterns. YouTube boasts a broad user base, with 93% of 18- to 29-year-olds immersed in its content, while 60% of those aged 65 and older also partake in the platform. Facebook displays a more modest age-based discrepancy, with a 9% difference between the same demographics.

The Mid-Tier Contenders

Beyond the giants, Instagram secures the third position with 47% user engagement. Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Snapchat form the next tier, each contributing to the vibrant social media landscape. Notably, TikTok's growth is unparalleled, soaring 12 points from 21% in just two years.

Amidst the survey, Twitter underwent a significant transformation, rebranding itself as X and welcoming CEO Linda Yaccarino. Despite this shift, X's reported user base saw a slight dip, contrasting with Reddit's upward trajectory, rising four points to 22%.

Instagram and Snapchat find favour among younger users, while LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and Facebook resonate strongly with the 40- to 49-year-old demographic. TikTok, in particular, emerges as a favourite among Hispanic users, with a notable 49% reporting usage.

Socioeconomic factors also weave into the fabric of social media engagement. X garners favour among adults with annual household incomes exceeding 80,00,000 INR, while LinkedIn attracts those with at least a bachelor's degree, showcasing the platform's appeal to the career-oriented segment.
