Newspoint
Bharti Airtel is sharpening its focus on cloud as a strategic growth engine, that can help enterprises migrate, scale and modernise with greater control over their data and digital operations. Airtel Cloud is being positioned not simply as another cloud storage option, but as an India-based infrastructure proposition focused on scale, connectivity, data control and regulated workloads. The platform offers IaaS, PaaS and advanced connectivity, and is designed to enable secure migration, effortless scaling, lower costs and no vendor lock-ins.

Sunil Bharti Mittal , founder and chairman, Bharti Enterprises, has identified cloud, AI infrastructure and data centers as central to the company’s next phase of growth. “I would say that AI infrastructure, data centers and cloud services are among the most important opportunities for us.”, he said, speaking at a recent event.

“ Sovereign cloud is a major area of focus. Every country is becoming increasingly concerned about digital sovereignty and ensuring that its data remains protected within its borders. Airtel and our companies are working intensively to develop our own sovereign cloud capabilities. We intend to serve enterprises, governments and other organisations through these platforms.”, he added.

For enterprises navigating digital transformation, the proposition is particularly relevant at a time when organisations are seeking cloud infrastructure that combines performance with data residency and sovereignty. Airtel Cloud is hosted in India and built to serve businesses that need dependable, secure and locally controlled cloud capabilities.

In the company’s annual report for FY 2025-26, Sunil Bharti Mittal described Airtel Cloud as one of three clear areas where the company believes it has a competitive advantage.

“Over the last few years, we took a calibrated approach to build new growth engines for Airtel. These bold bets yielded strong outcomes and have grown our conviction in three adjacencies where we believe Airtel has a clear right to win – financial services, data centers and Airtel Cloud.”

Airtel Cloud’s telco-grade heritage is central to its differentiation. The platform was developed to run Airtel’s own mission-critical digital operations. The built-in-India, built-for-India platform is positioned as India’s first telco-grade cloud platform, enabling enterprises across the country to adopt cloud infrastructure with confidence.

Launched in August 2025 by Airtel’s digital subsidiary Xtelify, Airtel Cloud is a sovereign, telco-grade cloud platform designed for Indian enterprises. It was originally developed to support Airtel’s own large-scale digital operations and has been battle-tested to handle 1.4 billion transactions per minute.
