ChatGPT Gets Virtual Try-On Feature for Online Shopping

Newspoint

OpenAI has introduced a virtual try-on experience in ChatGPT that allows shoppers to see how clothing and accessories could look on them before making a purchase. Users can upload a selfie or another suitable photo, while a new Favorites option lets them save products they may want to revisit later.

The new shopping tools are designed to make product discovery more visual and interactive, giving users the option to explore products, virtually try selected clothing and keep interesting finds saved in ChatGPT.

How ChatGPT’s Virtual Try-On Works

To use the feature, shoppers can select the Try On

button available on eligible clothing and accessory listings and upload a selfie. ChatGPT then generates an image showing how the selected item could look on the user.

Users can also upload a picture of clothing or an accessory directly into a conversation and ask ChatGPT to show how it might look on them. OpenAI notes that virtual try-on images may not perfectly represent a person’s appearance, the product or its fit, so shoppers should still check the seller’s measurements, product information and return policy before purchasing.

The experience is powered by ChatGPT Images. OpenAI’s latest ChatGPT Images 2.5 model offers sharper details, more natural lighting, richer textures and improved instruction following, while also reducing image-generation latency compared with the previous version.

Save Products With Favorites

Alongside virtual try-on, ChatGPT now allows users to save products for later. Products can be added to Favorites through the bookmark option and accessed again through the ChatGPT Library.

Users can also organise saved products into folders, making it easier to keep track of items they are considering. Reference photos used for future try-ons can also be managed through ChatGPT’s settings.

More AI-Powered Shopping Options

ChatGPT’s shopping experience also allows users to discover products by describing what they want or by uploading images for inspiration. The platform can help users explore similar products and compare available options based on their requirements.

The virtual try-on concept is not entirely new in the AI shopping space. Google introduced its own virtual apparel try-on experience in 2025, allowing shoppers to upload a photo and see how clothing could look on them. The feature was later expanded to markets including India.

OpenAI’s latest shopping tools bring similar visual try-on capabilities directly into ChatGPT, giving users another way to evaluate clothing and accessories before buying.

Disclaimer

Virtual try-on images are AI-generated and should be treated as visual references rather than an exact representation of fit, size or appearance. Product availability, prices, features and shopping options may change. Always verify product details, sizing information, seller terms and return policies before completing a purchase.
