Days after Michael Dell briefly became world's second richest man, he is selling 4,100-sq-ft Boston penthouse that he purchased 10 years ago for $10.9 million

Just days after Michael Dell briefly climbed to the position of the world’s second-richest man, the Dell Technologies founder is making headlines again — this time in real estate. Dell has put his 4,100-square-foot Boston penthouse on the market, a property he purchased a decade ago for $10.9 million. Located in Boston’s Millennium Tower, the penthouse offers sweeping city views, luxury finishes, and access to exclusive amenities. The residence reflects Dell’s penchant for high-value real estate investments, complementing his portfolio that includes properties in Texas and Hawaii. The listing comes amid Dell’s extraordinary financial year, with his net worth surging by more than $80 billion thanks to booming demand for AI infrastructure.

Michael Dell’s almost untouched luxury homeDell bought the Millennium Tower penthouse in 2016 through an LLC. Nearly a decade later, the roughly 4,100-square-foot, three-bedroom unit is heading to a sealed-bid auction with a reserve price $4.4 million below what he originally paid — a potential 41% discount from its last sale price. Bidding is open now and closes on October 29, though the property remains subject to a prior sale.

Perched on the 59th floor of Millennium Tower, the penthouse comes with sweeping views and, according to the listing agent, has barely been lived in since Dell bought it. Notably, the home's oven has apparently never even been turned on.

The sale comes at an interesting moment for Dell. His fortune took a $15.1 billion hit this past week as Dell Technologies shares fell amid a broader AI-stock selloff, knocking him down to No. 4 on Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires List. Just days earlier, he had briefly climbed to No. 2 on that same list for the first time. Despite the sharp drop, there's little to suggest the sale is driven by financial necessity — Dell remains one of the wealthiest people in the world.

Could buyers land a bargainThe auction is being handled by Paramount Realty USA in collaboration with SERHANT. Massachusetts. Paramount founder and CEO Misha Haghani acknowledged there's a real possibility a buyer could land a good deal, though he was careful to note that what counts as a "good deal" is ultimately subjective and will come down to how the market responds. Haghani declined to comment on why Dell is selling.

Not Michael Dell's first headline-making property dealThis isn't Dell's first eye-catching real estate move. The Dell Technologies founder and CEO previously paid $100.47 million for a penthouse at Manhattan's One57 in 2014, a deal that set records at the time. His willingness to buy — and now sell — trophy properties at steep prices underscores a pattern of high-profile real estate bets that mirror the volatility of his tech fortune, which has swung dramatically in recent weeks alongside the broader AI-driven market turbulence hitting Dell Technologies stock.
