Presently, the 80-mile journey can take up to 2.5 hours due to traffic. However, Musk claims that the tunnel could cut that down to a consistent under 30 minutes. Elon Musk took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared a post claiming that the Boring Company's tunnel could shrink that multi-hour drive down to a consistent under-30-minute trip. If it comes together, the project would rank among the most ambitious infrastructure undertakings Musk's tunneling company has attempted to date — linking two of Texas's fastest-growing cities with a route that bypasses surface traffic entirely.

Its only fully operational project remains the Vegas Loop, while a Nashville tunnel broke ground this year and its Dubai Loop isn't slated to begin construction until late 2026.
Closer to home, Boring is also digging tunnels in Bastrop, Texas, reportedly to link properties owned by Musk himself, allowing employees of Boring, SpaceX, Tesla, and X to move between them without surfacing — a project people familiar with the plans described to Bloomberg last year.
