Google To Roll Out Dark Web Reports For All Consumer Accounts By Late July
Last year, Google rolled out a feature called ‘ Dark Web Reports ’ for its Google One subscribers. This feature was designed to alert users if their personal information , such as names, dates of birth, and phone numbers, had surfaced on the dark web or been exposed in data breaches .
Initially, this dark web monitoring tool was exclusive to Google One customers, offering a detailed analysis of any compromised personal data. However, a new notification in the Google One app now informs users that the feature will be removed from the app by “late July.” If users click the ‘Learn More’ link in the banner, Google’s support page reveals that the feature “will become available to all users with a consumer Google Account.”
The support page also mentions that this functionality will be integrated into the existing “Results about you” section. This section appears in search results and assists users in finding and requesting the removal of personal contact information from search results.
Google will also allow users to manually add information to their profiles to monitor and verify which of their details have appeared on the dark web. Users will have the option to edit and delete their monitoring profiles or stop receiving reports altogether.
Additionally, last month, Google announced the discontinuation of its VPN service, which was also part of the Google One subscription. This change, however, will not affect users in India, as the service was never available in the country.
