India Tech Jobs Reach 123,000 in October 2026: What Jobseekers Should Know

India's technology job market is showing signs of recovery after a difficult period earlier in 2026. But a rise in vacancies does not mean every applicant will find it easier to secure a role. The type of work employers need, the experience they expect and the location of openings all influence individual prospects.

An October 2026 hiring report puts active technology openings at 123,000, the highest level in 18 months. The increase is encouraging, but the details matter. Demand is concentrated in particular sectors and experience levels, making targeted preparation more useful than applying indiscriminately.

What Do the Latest Numbers Show?

According to the October report from recruitment specialist Xpheno, active technology openings increased by 17% year on year and 5% compared with September.

IT services companies accounted for 66,000 openings, while Global Capability Centres, or GCCs, contributed 18,000.

The figures suggest that the recovery extends beyond a single month. However, vacancies represent advertised demand, not confirmed appointments, and hiring conditions can change quickly.

Software product companies and funded technology startups showed weaker year-on-year demand in the same report. This means the overall improvement is not uniform across the industry.

Which Roles Are Attracting Demand?

AI engineering, analyst positions and technical leadership were among the areas supporting hiring at IT services companies.

Mid-senior roles accounted for 68,000 openings, or approximately 55% of the total. Entry-level positions stood at 15,000.

These numbers suggest that employers are placing considerable value on professionals who can apply existing technical and business knowledge. However, they do not mean fresh graduates have no opportunities.

Candidates should examine job descriptions rather than assuming that a broad skill label guarantees employment.

How Should Jobseekers Prepare?

Start by selecting a clear role. Software engineering, data analysis, AI engineering, cybersecurity and technical project management require different combinations of knowledge.

Build a portfolio that demonstrates practical ability. A working project, a clear explanation of decisions and evidence of problem-solving can be more persuasive than a list of online courses alone.

For AI-related roles, learn the fundamentals of data handling, evaluation, security and model limitations. Employers need people who can use tools responsibly, not simply operate a chatbot.

Experienced applicants should connect their previous achievements to measurable business outcomes.

Does Location Still Matter?

The report recorded 31,000 openings in Bengaluru and 9,000 in Delhi NCR. It also found that 81% of active openings were work-from-office roles.

Applicants should therefore check location and working arrangements before investing time in an application.

The broader recovery is a positive signal, but it is not a guarantee of easy recruitment. A focused job search, demonstrable skills and realistic expectations remain essential.
