Mark Zuckerberg 's tech giant is aiming to provide enhanced options to individuals utilising Instagram and Facebook across the EU, European Economic Area ( EEA ), and Switzerland, aligning with the impending DMA regulations. These changes empower EU users to engage with Meta’s services without the sharing of their information between the platforms.
For those who have previously linked their Instagram and Facebook accounts, the option remains available to maintain the connection, allowing the shared utilisation of information across both platforms. Alternatively, users can opt to manage their Instagram and Facebook accounts independently, ensuring their information is no longer interlinked, as explained by Tim Lamb , Director of Competition and Regulatory at Meta.
Facebook Messenger users are given the choice to either continue using the service with their existing Facebook account or create a standalone Messenger account devoid of Facebook information. Those opting for the latter will still enjoy Messenger's core services, including private messaging, chat, voice, and video calling.
Similarly, Facebook Marketplace users now have the flexibility to decide whether they want to utilise their Facebook information for a personalised experience or opt for a Marketplace disconnected from their Facebook details.
