Microsoft CEO Urges for AI Benefits to Reach Every Individual in India

Seattle, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, has called on tech leaders to ensure that the advantages of artificial intelligence (AI) reach farmers, businesses, and communities across India. Speaking at the Ideas4India forum in Seattle, he emphasized that the effectiveness of AI will depend on how widely it can be utilized and how many people can contribute to its development.Nadella stressed that the benefits of general-purpose technology should extend to countries and various sectors. He also highlighted the importance of national sovereignty, control over knowledge, and human oversight. “It will only be possible if the entire world can benefit from this knowledge and contribute to it,” he stated. The Indian American Tech CEO Forum, organized by the Indian Consulate in the U.S., featured over 40 CEOs and CTOs of Indian origin. Representatives from companies in AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, aerospace, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise software participated in the event.Nadella illustrated AI's potential with a demonstration seen in Delhi, where an Indian developer integrated a GPT model with language services. This system enabled rural farmers to access information about government schemes via WhatsApp. During the demonstration, the farmer was able to communicate in their local language. The system explained the process for obtaining subsidies and assisted with necessary paperwork. According to Nadella, the significance of this initiative lies in empowering ordinary individuals to access their rights and government benefits more effectively.This experience helped him understand the broader impact AI can have beyond the tech industry. He urged the community to consider the expanding ecosystem around advanced AI. The influence of AI will depend on how extensively it reaches businesses across various sectors and scales of the economy. For this expansion, it is crucial for countries and companies to maintain control over their knowledge. “Countries must retain control over their knowledge,” Nadella asserted.He advocated for partnerships that provide a sense of security to nations and businesses, ensuring they do not become overly reliant on the technological capabilities of others. This will necessitate a more distributed approach to governance and control. Nadella also noted that India's AI opportunities should include creating unique products and services for the world. He encouraged professionals to reassess their skills, as AI is transforming the way work is conducted.
