Google CEO Sundar Pichai said AI is giving him a reason to dream bigger about what technology can achieve. Speaking at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi earlier this year, Sundar Pichai described AI as the biggest technology shift of his lifetime and said it could help countries solve major problems in areas such as healthcare, education, farming and scientific research. “And no technology has me dreaming bigger than AI,” Pichai said in his speech. He also called AI “the biggest platform shift of our lifetimes” and said the world is approaching a period of rapid progress and new discoveries.

The train passed through Visakhapatnam, or Vizag, which he remembered as a quiet coastal city with potential. Today, Google is building a full-stack AI hub in Vizag as part of its planned $15 billion infrastructure investment in India.
The hub is expected to include large-scale computing capacity and a new international subsea cable gateway. Pichai said he never imagined during those train journeys that Vizag could one day become a global AI hub.
He also spoke about seeing his 83-year-old father experience a fully autonomous Waymo car ride in San Francisco. His father, however, wanted to see the technology work on India's busy roads too.

He said investment in computing infrastructure, internet connectivity and digital skills will be important as AI changes the workforce. Pichai said Google has trained 100 million people in digital skills and is launching a Google AI Professional Certificate to help people use AI in their jobs.
He also said governments, technology companies and businesses need to work together to manage the risks and opportunities created by AI. “We have the opportunity to improve lives at a once-in-generation scale,” Pichai said. “Now we must do the work, together.”
