Nintendo has just broadcast a surprise Direct conference with practically no notice. Perhaps in a bid to avoid leaks, Nintendo announced the latest Direct at 10.50pm BST UK time, just ten minutes before the start time of 11pm UK time.

"This is Miyamoto," reads a Nintendo tweet. "In just a moment, at 11pm (UK time), we will livestream Star Fox Direct - 06/05/2026.

"The presentation runs for approximately 15 minutes, and I would be delighted if you could take a look."

The 15 minute Nintendo Direct focused exclusively on the return of the Star Fox franchise to Switch 2. You can watch the entire broadcast by clicking play on the YouTube embed below.

Simply titled Star Fox, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive is a remake of the superb Star Fox 64.

According to Nintendo, the game features the same level layouts and progression, just with massively upgraded graphics.

Best of all, Star Fox has been given a June 25 release date for Nintendo Switch 2, which is much sooner than we expected.

As a remake of the N64 classic - and the best game in the entire series - Star Fox for Switch 2 will feature support for the wireless Nintendo 64 controller.

Speaking of controllers, it also supports Switch 2 mouse controls for superior accuracy.

Furthermore, the Switch 2 Star Fox will have a co-op mode where one person controls the ship and the other fires lasers.

That's on top of a PvP battle mode and GameShare functionality for multiplayer.

Fans will also be able to use Star Fox characters as Avatars in GameChat. The Star Fox Avatars will capture your head and mouth movements as you speak to friends.

Finally, while the gameplay is similar to Star Fox 64, Nintendo has added new cutscenes to provide more context and backstory between missions.

As a reminder, Star Fox will make its Nintendo Switch 2 debut on June 25.

The game is available to pre-order for £41.99 from the Nintendo eShop. Physical versions will also be released.
