YouTube Launches Free AI Tool to Create Copyright-Safe Music for Videos
YouTube is rolling out a new AI-powered tool designed to help content creators generate instrumental background music without cost. Integrated into the platform’s Creator Music marketplace, this tool aims to make sourcing original music easier and more affordable—particularly for those looking to avoid copyright complications.
The new feature was introduced in a video published on YouTube’s Creator Insider channel, where host Lauren presented a new section called Music Assistant within the Creator Music beta. This tool allows users to input descriptive prompts such as "Calm and peaceful music with acoustic guitar and flowing piano" or "Give me uplifting music for a workout montage".
Users can specify the tone, instruments, and intended use of the music through a free-text entry. The AI then processes the prompt and offers a selection of tracks for the creator to review and download.
This development builds on Creator Music, launched in 2023, which was intended to help creators navigate music licensing and cost structures. With the AI-generated music now available for free, it presents a valuable new option—especially for creators working on a budget.
Music Assistant joins a growing field of AI-based music generation tools. Other examples include Meta’s AudioCraft and MusicGen, which are capable of generating audio from text inputs, and Stability AI’s diffusion-based model for producing background audio, according to Business Today.
