₹3,000 More For ASHA Workers, Free Bus Travel For Women: Satheesan's First Decisions As Kerala CM

In its first Cabinet meeting after taking oath, the Kerala government led by Chief Minister V D Satheesan announced a series of welfare measures, including a Rs 3,000 increase in the monthly honorarium of ASHA workers. The move fulfils a key promise made to frontline health workers who have played an important role in Kerala’s healthcare system. The Congress-led United Democratic Front government also announced free travel for women on Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses from June 15 to encourage greater use of public transport and ease commuting. Additionally, the Cabinet approved the creation of a dedicated department for senior citizens focusing on healthcare, social security and welfare. Satheesan took oath earlier in Thiruvananthapuram, marking UDF’s return to power after a decade.
