Air India Express Passenger Booked After Pistol Goes Off At Varanasi Airport During Security Check
Two ad-hoc cargo screening employees were injured after a passenger’s licensed pistol accidentally discharged during a security check at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 9.30 am when 55-year-old Kamlesh Rai, a resident of Azamgarh, arrived with his wife to board an Air India Express flight to Mumbai. Rai had declared the licensed weapon to airport authorities. During inspection, a round in the chamber accidentally fired while the pistol was in his hand. The bullet reportedly hit a hard surface before a fragment or ricochet struck two AAICLAS employees, Suman Rani and Rohit Raj. Rani suffered a thigh injury, while Raj was injured on his finger. Both were taken to a trauma centre and were reported stable. Police said an FIR is being lodged under relevant BNS sections for negligent acts causing hurt and serious hurt.
