Bengal Govt Transfers IPS Officer Bushra Bano After ‘Assalam Aleikum’ Video Row

IPS officer Bushra Bano has been transferred by the West Bengal government days after a video she posted on X drew criticism from some right-wing organisations. Bano, who was serving as Additional SP of Kharagpur, has been posted as Deputy Commandant of the West Bengal Armed Police. In the September 13 video, she spoke about her UPSC journey and credited Aligarh Muslim University’s Residential Coaching Academy for helping her prepare for the exam. Her use of Islamic expressions including “Assalamualaikum,” “Inshallah” and “Jazakallah” drew criticism from some social media accounts and organisations. Opposition leaders, including TMC MP Mahua Moitra, criticised the government’s decision.
