Centre Restricts Silver Bar Imports, Changes Status From 'Free' To 'Restricted'

The Indian government has imposed restrictions on silver imports as part of efforts to regulate bullion inflows and ease pressure on the country’s external sector. According to an official notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, the import policy for silver, including silver alloys containing gold and platinum, has been revised from the “free” category to “restricted” with immediate effect. Under the revised policy, importers will now require government licences to bring such goods into the country.
