Delhi To Seal All Illegal Buildings Above 4 Floors; CM Rekha Vows Action After Satya Niketan Tragedy

A five-storey building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area collapsed on Sunday afternoon, killing six people and triggering a major overnight rescue operation. The building, reportedly used as a boys’ paying guest accommodation near Delhi University’s South Campus, collapsed around 1:30 pm while repair and construction work was underway. CCTV footage captured the structure suddenly giving way, sending debris onto the road. The MCD has now ordered the immediate sealing of illegal buildings exceeding four floors across Delhi and warned of strict action against officials responsible for allowing unauthorised construction. The collapsed structure, built on around 55 square yards, was reportedly approved only as a ground-plus-one unit but had been extended to multiple floors. The adjoining women’s PG has also been evacuated and sealed.
