Delhi Traffic To Go Smart As Modi Cabinet Approves ₹1,789 Crore ITMS

Delhi is set for a technology-driven overhaul of its traffic management system, with the Cabinet approving Rs 1,789.52 crore for an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). The Delhi Police will implement the project across 42 traffic corridors in three phases over 24 months, followed by five years of operation and maintenance. The system will use adaptive traffic signals, real-time monitoring, automated enforcement and integrated command-and-control infrastructure. It will detect congestion, accidents and traffic violations while supporting green corridors for ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Commuters will also get information on traffic conditions, diversions and parking through digital platforms and Variable Message Signs. The project will cover 1,092 adaptive signal locations and 1,029 enforcement locations across Delhi.
