Former RAW Chief Flags Security Risks Over PM Modi's Convoy Downsizing

Former RAW Secretary Samant Goel expressed concern over Prime Minister Narendra Modi reducing the size of his security convoy under the Centre’s fuel-conservation measures amid rising global energy prices linked to the Middle East crisis. Goel said the current international security environment remains highly volatile and stressed that the Prime Minister’s security should be strengthened instead of downsized. Referring to recent attacks on former US President Trump and ongoing terror threats from hostile elements and neighbouring states, he warned that drones and sniper weapons have increased security risks. He emphasised that SPG protection is based on threat assessment, not status, and said reducing the convoy size could make it easier for enemies to target the Prime Minister.
