‘India Growing Under PM Modi’: Muslim Clerics Condemn Hamid Ansari's ‘Hindu Extremism’ Remarks

Former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s remarks on “Hindu extremism” and the RSS have drawn criticism from Muslim clerics. All India Imam Association president Maulana Sajid Rashidi said Muslims should not be made to feel like outsiders in India. He questioned Ansari’s decision to speak on such issues after leaving office and said Ansari had made fewer statements favouring Muslims while serving as Vice President. Rashidi said extremism becomes wrong when it promotes hatred against other communities. He also stressed that Muslims are proud to live in India and called for communal harmony. Earlier, chief Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi also criticised Ansari’s remarks, alleging they could disturb the social atmosphere and were aimed at improving his standing among Muslims.
