India Pushes UN For CCIT Adoption, Seeks Action Against Pahalgam Terror Attack Backers

India has renewed its call at the United Nations for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), a proposal first introduced by India in 1996. Speaking at the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee, BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb stressed the need to hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of cross-border terrorism accountable, citing the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. India also rejected any distinction between “good” and “bad” terrorists and highlighted the growing use of emerging technologies for recruitment, radicalisation, propaganda, operational planning and terror financing.
