'India World’s Best Location': Goyal Holds Key Data Centre Meet, Eyes $200 Billion Investment
India is positioning itself as a major global hub for data centres, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighting the sector’s potential to attract over USD 200 billion in investments. At a recent roundtable, hyperscalers, international investors and Indian companies discussed measures to improve ease of doing business and address key challenges related to power, land, approvals and infrastructure. The government is working closely with industry stakeholders to remove bottlenecks and accelerate investments in the sector. Subcommittees have also been formed to examine issues requiring further discussion. Along with semiconductors, artificial intelligence and manufacturing, data centres are expected to play a crucial role in driving India’s economic growth and supporting the country’s ambition of becoming a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047.
