'Jail Bharo Andolan': CJP's Mumbai Protest Draws Thousands, Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation
The Cockroach Janta Party, or CJP, launched its ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Mumbai Police Special Branch estimated that around 9,000 to 10,000 people had gathered at the venue by 4 pm. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke led the protest and raised allegations of electoral irregularities and concerns over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision exercise. The protest also saw the participation of activist Tushar Gandhi, veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, and singer Vishal Dadlani. Azmi said voting was a constitutional right and welcomed the turnout. The gathering was held amid heavy police deployment, while some residents raised concerns over noise pollution. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the allegations against the Election Commission had already been countered.
