Jaishankar Meets Rubio At UNGA, Raises India’s Concerns Over Trump’s Russia Sanctions Bill Impact

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the UN General Assembly and raised India’s interests and concerns over the Russia sanctions law. The legislation gives President Donald Trump authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on goods from major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including India. Jaishankar and Rubio also discussed the Gulf and Ukraine. India has warned the law could affect bilateral ties and global energy markets, while stressing that its energy purchases are driven by national interest and the need to protect energy security.
