Manipur Shuts Down For 48 Hours As NRC Demand Intensifies Ahead Of 2027 Census Deadline

Manipur has begun a 48-hour general strike called by the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation, demanding implementation of the National Register of Citizens before the 2027 Census. Road blockades, closed shops and disrupted transport were reported across several areas, particularly in the valley districts. The agitation remained largely peaceful, though reports of injuries emerged during incidents involving security forces and police. The state government says it remains committed to the NRC issue and plans to send MLAs to Delhi to press the Centre while seeking a united approach to the matter.
