NALSAR Row Erupts: CJI Raps BCI, As CJP Demands Resignation Of Bar Council Chief

A major confrontation has erupted over the NALSAR University of Law enrolment controversy. After students questioned CJI Surya Kant being invited as convocation chief guest, the Bar Council of India ordered State Bar Councils to freeze enrolment of NALSAR’s 2026 graduates, before reversing the decision and dropping its inquiry. The Supreme Court has now stepped in, with CJI Surya Kant saying the BCI had “no business” interfering with lawful student protests. The controversy has also drawn the Cockroach Janata Party into the debate, raising bigger questions about judicial authority, student dissent and institutional accountability.
