Rajnath Singh Announces Rs 8.75 Lakh Crore Defence Modernisation Push on 80th Independence Day

On the eve of Independence Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted India's major push to modernise its armed forces and make the defence sector future-ready.Singh said the Defence Acquisition Council has granted Acceptance of Necessity for projects worth over Rs 8.75 lakh crore in the past year, calling it the largest investment in India's defence modernisation history. The projects are aimed at equipping the Army, Navy and Air Force with advanced weapon systems.He also highlighted reforms to accelerate defence procurement, including up to 100% higher delegated financial powers for field commanders and increased financial powers for indigenisation. According to Singh, these measures will enable defence procurement worth over Rs 1.25 lakh crore through the revenue route.
