Soap, Shampoo, Toothpaste: Veg & Non-Veg Labels Now Mandatory On Toiletries, Cosmetics

Not just food products, but soaps, shampoos, toothpastes and cosmetics will now carry vegetarian or non-vegetarian symbols on their packaging in India. The Central Government has amended the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, requiring pre-packed toiletries and cosmetic products to display these symbols prominently. A green dot will indicate products without animal-derived ingredients, while a red or brown dot will identify products containing ingredients sourced from animals. Manufacturers and importers will need to review their formulations and supply chains, including additives, oils and other components. The move aims to give consumers clearer information about ingredient sources while shopping.
