‘Undeclared Emergency’: Wangchuk Warns Of Padyatra, Hunger Strike Over Delhi Protest Detentions
Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has warned of an indefinite hunger strike or a padyatra if political leaders and activists detained in Delhi are not released by Sunday. Calling the crackdown an “undeclared Emergency”, Wangchuk’s warning follows mass detentions during the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged electoral roll irregularities. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee and several other leaders were detained. Police sources said around 1,500 people had been detained. The INDIA bloc has announced a major protest in Delhi on Monday, October 12, signalling further opposition mobilisation.
